Why Michael Strahan Won’t Be Making Any More Commercials

Former “Live with Kelly & Michael” co-host Michael Strahan is regarded as the modern template for endorsement deals by ex-athletes, but the onetime NFL star is giving up his endorsements as part of his move to a full-time role on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The New York Post’s Page Six reports that Strahan, whose many endorsements have included Snickers, Right Guard, Pizza Hut and Metamucil, became an employee of ABC News as part of his transition to “GMA,” and the news division does not allow endorsements by its employees.

Strahan’s previous job on “Live” was covered by a syndication deal through Disney/ABC Domestic Television, and wasn’t subject to the ABC News rules.

The report quotes an ABC rep saying Strahan’s endorsement deals will end “in the next few months” and are not going to be renewed.

  1. They are smitten with this guy’s likeability. If he isn’t making the $ from endorsements, they are making up the difference. Or promising a longer shelf life. Either way it’s good to be in the Michael Strahan business right now.
