Why the Chairman of JetBlue Is Unhappy With Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

The chairman of JetBlue, the country’s fifth-largest airline, is no fan of the two presumptive major party candidates for president. The New York Post reports that Joel Peterson expressed concerns about the country’s crisis of trust in its politicians and the impending race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

“Peterson, a professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, successful entrepreneur and now JetBlue’s outspoken chairman, says a record number of Americans have lost trust in the current candidates for the highest office in the land,” The Post reports. “He makes no secret of his own misgivings.”

Peterson, 69, told The Post: “I have been encouraging friends of mine to run.”

The executive indicated the trust issue is especially prominent among young people.

“Millennials, for example, have been told all these things — go to college, get a job, buy a home — and then they look around and see what is really happening,” he told The Post. “Houses foreclosed, $35,000 in average student debt, a tough job market with the economy creating lots of part-time and low-wage jobs. You will be laid off and have 11 jobs in your lifetime. It’s challenging for everybody.”

He added: “People are wary, angry and frustrated. We have candidates appealing to all this anger, yet two-thirds of the public doesn’t trust the leading candidates. So it is understandable where this mistrust is coming from.”

  1. He summed up Obama’s 8 years well! “Houses foreclosed, $35,000 in average student debt, a tough job market with the economy creating lots of part-time and low-wage jobs. You will be laid off and have 11 jobs in your lifetime. It’s challenging for everybody.” The foreclosures have a Bill Clinton origin but Obama had 8 years to change things (remember “Hope & Change”?). Health care costs have quadrupled. Fewer workers in the workforce in more than 40 years! No wonder people are looking for a different kind of leadership not just a different politician.
