Are James Corden and Stephen Colbert in a Battle for the CBS 11:30 p.m. Slot? Here’s Corden’s Take

Rumors have been swirling that CBS is looking to breathe some fire into its late-night lineup by switching time slots between its 11:30 p.m. flagship, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” and its lead-out, “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”

Some observers have gone so far as to call it a feud between Colbert and Corden. But Corden, in an interview with Variety, appeared to put the rumors to rest, not only calling the time switch rumor “silly,” but also heaping praise on Colbert’s show.

Asked about the time slot switch, Corden said: “I just think it’s silly. I think it’s mostly just people trying to drum up something that doesn’t exist. The reason it doesn’t exist is that I know my boss [CBS CEO Leslie Moonves], and I know that when he makes a decision, that’s the decision he’s going to make. He’s going to stick by that and so should he.”

Corden added: “Have you watched Stephen’s show in the last two weeks? It’s incredible. It’s fantastic. It’s been just awesome to watch. I’m incredibly proud to be the show on after his. I think he is an incredible talent and a host and a broadcaster and a voice. That show, I feel like it’s finding its feet every single day.”

Corden also noted that he finds the idea of time slots “archaic.” To read the full interview, please click on the link to Variety at the top of this story.

  1. What? Corden didn’t say Colbert is brilliant, and he is such a huge fan. That is because he is being a good solider. Give it some time. Corden will be on at 11:35PM. Colbert will either move to 12:37AM, or be let go. I like Steven, but he will never beat Fallon.
