Donald Trump continues to come under fire over his latest controversy — a feud with the father of a slain U.S. Muslim soldier who spoke out against Trump during the Democratic National Convention.
CNN reports that Sen. John McCain joined the battle this morning, lashing out at Trump for his war of words against Khizr Khan.
In a statement, McCain said: “In recent days, Donald Trump disparaged a fallen soldier’s parents. He has suggested that the likes of their son should not be allowed in the United States — to say nothing of entering its service. I cannot emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement. I hope Americans understand that the remarks do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers, or candidates.”
Meanwhile, Trump kept up his attack on Khan, lashing out against him on Twitter during a live appearance by Khan on CNN.
Trump tweeted early today: “Mr. Khan, who does not know me, viciously attacked me from the stage of the DNC and is now all over T.V. doing the same – Nice!” Trump also said the focus should be on radical islamic terrorism and not on the Khans.
Asked to respond to the tweet on live TV, Khan said: “Communities coming together is the solution. We are as concerned as Donald Trump is about the safety of this country. We are a testament to the goodness of this country. We need a leader that will unite us, not disrespect, not by derogatory remarks. I feel bad about the discourse that this campaign, this election campaign has taken.”
Not a yuuugge fan of the Donald… BUT…I think McCain is misrepresenting what he has said, which shouldn’t surprise me as I’ve never been a fan of McCain either. I think Trump has said he would restrict immigration from certain Muslim countries that have a tendency to breed terrorists. He may have also said something to the effect that we shouldn’t let people in who we don’t feel confident have been fully vetted. We have indeed done this in the past. Jimmy Carter did it in the late 70’s after Iran stormed our embassy in Tehran and took the inhabitants hostage, and I believe FDR did it as well during WWII. This issue became “political” when the DNC decided to make Khan a spokesman. What did Mr. Kahn THINK was going to happen after the DNC made him a pawn on their chessboard?? It’s a sad and disappointing situation all around.
During World War II Japanese were locked up. Is that the plan for Muslims before or after they are vetted?
Trump needs to stop being a Chump and give a solid Bump to his sagging campaign before the country becomes a huge Garbage Dump!
