A longtime cast member on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” who was recently cut from the show will star in a new series. Showtime announced that it has cast Jay Pharoah as the lead in “White Famous.”

News of Pharoah’s departure from “SNL” broke just this week, with “SNL” veteran Taran Killam’s departure surfacing at the same time.

“White Famous” is a half-hour comedy executive produced by Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and showrunner Tom Kapinos of “Californication.” Tim Story, the prolific director who helmed the movie franchises “Barbershop,” “Fantastic Four,” “Ride Along” and “Think Like a Man,” is also on board as an executive producer and will direct the pilot.
