‘Criminal Minds’ Star Fired From the Show

Aug 12, 2016  •  Post A Comment

One of the stars of the long-running CBS procedural “Criminal Minds” has been fired from the show after a physical altercation. USA Today reports that Thomas Gibson, who has played Aaron Hotchner on the drama series since season one, was canned over the incident in which he kicked the writer of the episode Gibson was directing.

Gibson was initially suspended, as we reported Thursday, but after reviewing the situation, CBS and ABC Studios made the decision to boot him permanently.

In a joint statement, the network and production studio said: “Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from ‘Criminal Minds.’ Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”

USA Today published a statement from Gibson in which he said: “I love ‘Criminal Minds’ and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”

  1. I agree shouldn’t have happened and there should be consequences, but haven’t heard one word as to what happened to the other person involved. …….and I am sure we are not getting the entire story and never will…..tragic loss for all….I will not be watching the show from this point forward.

  2. Like this show. Surprised at this move. May be time to bring in a really big name to replace him.

  3. Big mistake. While those who remain, Shemar Moore and Thomas Gibson made the Show what it is.

  4. I JOIN IN WITH THOUSANDS OF LOYAL CRIMINAL MINDS FANS SAYING WE WILL BOYCOTT NOT ONLY THE SHOW BUT ALL OF ITS SPONSORS AND WILL STRONGLY ENCOURAGE EVERY SINGLE FAN OF THE SHOW TO DO LIKEWISE. IF YOU BIG EXECUTIVES ENJOY FIRING SOMEONE NOT EVEN JUST AN ACTOR BUT THE FREAKIN DIRECTOR THEN THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG IN UPPER MANAGEMENT.
WE THE FANS DESERVE A TRUTHFUL EXPLAINATION AS TO WHAT HANUS CRIME DIRECTOR AND LEAD ROLE PLAYER THOMAS GIBSON ACTUALLY COMMITTED DIRECTORS AND OCCASIONALLY PRODUCERS MOST OF THE TIME HAVE ALTERCATIONS WITH WRITERS ETC BUT ANYTHING SHORT OF POINTING A GUN AT SOMEONE OR THREATENING THEIR LIFE IS NOT A REASON FOR TERMINATION. NOT FAIR, AND OH YES WHILE I THINK OF THE WORD FAIR WE ARE SO TIRED OF THE CABLE INDUSTRY MAKING DEMANDS OF US SUCH AS PAYING FOR CBS RECENTLY AIRED TV SHOWS TO WATCH ONLINE. WHATS THE BIG DEAL MILLIONS OF PEOPLE GET THE PROGRAMS FREE OFF OF OUTDOOR ANTENNAS AND DIGITAL TV TUNERS SO WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO PAY TO WATCH THE SAME FREE SHOW ONLINE WITH DIFFERENT COMMERCIALS ON THE INTERNET. WHAT A SCAM PAYING FOR SOMETHING FREE OVER THE AIR PAID FOR BY SPONSORS AND THEN CHARCING US TO SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR SERVICE AND STILL HAVE TO WATCH COMMERCIALS THIS NOT EVEN ON THE ORIGINAL OFF THE AIR BROADCAST DOUBLE DIPPING AND YOU CABLE COMPANIES WHO I KNOW NOW OWN MOST OF TELEVISION BROADCAST NETWORKS CANT SEEM TO STOP RIPPING US OFF. IF WE DECIDED TO CUT THE CABLE BECAUSE OF YOUR UNFAIR PRICING NOW YOU FIND ANOTHER WAY TO GET US ONLINE. WHEN WILL THIS B/S STOP

  5. My wife and I have watched Criminal Minds from the very first episode. We were already upset by Shemar’s departure, but thought that we’d at least give the show a try for a few episodes after he leaves. With the news that they’ve now fired Thomas Gibson, we’ve decided just to let it go. We had 7 episodes still to watch on our DVR’s and as of this evening, they’ve all been deleted. CBS, I’m sorry but you blew it.
