After experimenting with live broadcasts of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” following the recent political conventions, CBS is hoping to once again leverage the political season into ratings. The network announced that it will air the show live following the presidential debates, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26, and Wednesday, Oct. 19, and the vice presidential debate, set for Tuesday, Oct. 4.
CBS reported that it had a ratings surge for live “Late Show” broadcasts following the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. The network also said the live shows spawned “The Late Show’s” two biggest viral clips to date: Jon Stewart’s guest appearance and Laura Benanti’s appearance as Melania Trump, which you can watch below.
The guest lineup for the three upcoming live shows will be announced at a later date.
