Miss Teen USA Explains Her Racist Tweets — Here’s the Video

New Miss Teen USA Karlie Hay of Texas, who came under fire just hours after she was crowned over the weekend when tweets surfaced from a few years ago that included the N-word, appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” to discuss the controversy.

In an interview with George Stephanopoulos, Hay apologized and explained that at the time of the tweets, when she was 15, she was “being a follower.” She added: “I was trying to fit in with my friends. The word was thrown around in the music I listened to, with the friends I hung out with, and I had no guidance, so it was kind of a careless mistake.”

Hay, now 18, said of the incident, “It’s embarrassing — it’s something I’m ashamed of.” She also talked about turning the controversy into something positive by teaching others not to repeat her mistakes.

  1. This is Donald Trump’s group right? If not he should buy Miss Teen USA. Perfect for his business portfolio. Wrote this before she apologizes in the video. Can’t wait to hear her excuses.
