New Series Revives the Most Famous Fictional Attorney in the History of TV — With One of Hollywood’s Biggest Stars in Talks to Play Him

Talks are in progress for a new TV series that brings together a huge Hollywood star and a fictional attorney who’s a household name from the classic TV era. The attorney is, of course, Perry Mason, and Variety reports that “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. is in talks with HBO to play him.

Along with Downey, Nic Pizzolatto, the “True Detective” creator, is also attached, Variety reports. Pizzolatto is set to write the project.

“Plot details are scarce, but insiders say the project is based on Downey Jr.’s ‘Perry Mason’ reboot, which he had been developing as a feature film at Warner Bros. for several years,” the report notes. “Pizzolatto, Joe Horacek, Downey Jr., and his producing partner and wife, Susan Downey, of Team Downey will serve as exec producers.”
