The new management team at Viacom may be looking to bring aboard a “powerhouse ad sales chief,” writes Claire Atkinson in The New York Post, adding: “Our Madison Avenue sources say to keep an eye on outgoing Discovery ad sales boss Joe Abruzzese.”
Abruzzese has a connection to new Viacom board member Judith McHale, having worked with her back in 2002 when she ran Discovery Communications, Atkinson notes.
“Abruzzese has said he’s retiring at the end of the year, and most folks think he is unlikely to give up the beach to fix Viacom’s ad woes. But our tipsters suggest he might be persuaded if Viacom and CBS ever get together,” Atkinson reports.
Abruzzese is the former head of ad sales for CBS, and Atkinson notes that he remains on good terms with CBS Chief Executive Leslie Moonves.
