The father and stepmother of a former NASCAR racer were found dead at their Southern California home in what’s being investigated as a murder-suicide. The Charlotte Observer reports that the father of race driver Robby Gordon is believed to have strangled his wife before fatally shooting himself.
Robert Gordon, 68, and his wife Sharon, 57, were found dead Wednesday at their home in Orange, near Anaheim.
Robby Gordon said his family was in shock and grief, and commented: “I’m so sad, and I can’t believe it. I grew up on this property my whole life. I learned everything about motorsports out of this little tiny barn over here.”
TMZ.com was reporting that a butcher knife was found near the body of Sharon Gordon.
Robby Gordon is one of only a few racers to find success both in stock cars and in open-wheel racing, competing in NASCAR, IndyCar, Trans-Am, IMSA and off-road racing, among other circuits. His NASCAR Sprint Cup career spanned 20 years, resulting in three race wins.
