A breakout series airing on NBC has had its order expanded for its freshman season. Variety reports that the network expanded the order for “This Is Us” to 18 episodes, adding five episodes to the initial pickup.

The report says the drama was “one of the big winners of the 2016-2017 premiere week. According to Nielsen’s ‘Live +5’ estimates, the ensemble series scored a 4.5 rating and 14.3 million viewers in the Adults 18-49 demo, becoming this fall’s top new series debut.”

The series stars Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz and Sterling K. Brown.

  1. This is where the networks misstep. People no longer want seasons that are so long. There is an old adage. Leave them wanting more. That is where HBO, Netflix and the rest excell. They keep the season short enough that viewers can watch it in a compressed period of time we already have busy lives and don’t want to dedicate more than 10-14 weeks to a season

  2. I disagree with Guilty Cleric. I miss the time when a season went to around 30 episodes. (The original Star Trek’s season was 29 episodes.) I think, when your season is 12 episodes, that basically means that you’ll have to wait the better part of a year for the next season, and that’s a lot of time in which to lose interest or forget the show altogether. It’s happened to me. “Oh, that came back? I forgot all about it!”

  3. I agree with both of the previous commentors. I get frustrated when an 80% watchable show goes on forever, and the one that’s really good only lasts for 10 episodes. What’s a dedicated TV fan to do?!
