Skittles Has a Sour Reaction to Being Drawn Into Presidential Campaign

The candy maker behind Skittles had a sour reaction after the product became a part of the presidential campaign. NBC News reports that Donald Trump Jr. dragged Skittles into the conversation by tweeting an image of the candy along with a message that read: “If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful.”

His father, the GOP nominee, later endorsed his son’s tweet as an argument against admitting refugees, sending out a tweet that said: “This image says it all. Let’s end the politically correct agenda that doesn’t put America first. #trump2016.”

But Wrigley Americas, the parent company of Skittles, wasn’t on board. The company’s VP of Corporate Affairs, Denise Young, sent out a statement saying: “Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy. We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing.”

  1. A smarter action for Denise Young would have been to overnight a jar full of Skittles to Trump so that it might end up occupying the same position on his desk as Ragan’s jellybean jar did! And the initial comment is already marketing!
