A teaser has been put out by HBO for a high-profile series due to hit the pay-cable channel in 2017 that is being called a “darkly comedic” drama by HBO although others have called it a comedy miniseries.

The project is the limited series “Big Little Lies,” created by David E. Kelley and based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling book of the same name. The seven-episode series stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern, Adam Scott, Zoe Kravitz, James Tupper and Kathryn Newton.

It’s directed by Jean-Marc Vallee from a script by Kelley.

HBO says the “subversive, darkly comedic” drama series “tells the tale of three mothers of first-graders whose seemingly perfect lives unravel to the point of murder.”
