Viacom-owned MTV is launching its new MTV Docs unit, with the unit’s first production to be televised Oct. 11. Deadline.com reports that President Obama will be a part of the special, “Prescription for Change: Ending America’s Opioid Crisis.”
Two more documentaries are also scheduled to air by the end of the year: “Transformation,” about transgender youth in L.A., and a project chronicling a concert in Havana earlier this year by Major Lazer.
“The world premiere of ‘Prescription for Change’ takes place today at the White House in conjunction with its South by South Lawn festival (www.whitehouse.gov/sxsl),” Deadline notes. “MTV promises that, in ‘Prescription for Change,’ Obama will join Macklemore to ‘openly share their own experience with substance use as they discuss the scourge and stigma of addiction.’”
Deadline notes that Macklemore also joined Obama at his weekly address back in May to discuss opioid addiction.
