The prolific producer behind some of the biggest comedy hits on television is developing a drama project for Amazon. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Chuck Lorre, the man behind “The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men” and many other hit sitcoms, is working on an event series adaptation of the 1987 Tom Wolfe novel “The Bonfire of the Vanities.”
The series comes from Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre has an overall deal. The project, which is reportedly being considered as an eight-episode series, has been in the works for months and was initially offered to cable and streaming outlets, the report notes.
“Margaret Nagle (‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Red Band Society’) is set to pen the script and executive produce alongside Lorre,” THR reports. “Author and political reporter David Corn will serve as a consultant. Amazon Studios, WBTV and Chuck Lorre Productions are the producers on the project.”
