Harry Shearer Developing Political Satire Series Targeting Trump

Predictions that Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election might usher in a golden age of political satire may be starting to come true. Deadline.com reports that one project already in the works comes from Harry Shearer, who voices Mr. Burns, Kent Brockman, Principal Skinner and many other characters on “The Simpsons.”

Shearer is developing and shopping a topical political sketch comedy series with Trump apparently the primary target. The show, “Too Soon?,” will apparently incorporate motion-capture technology.

“Shearer says he’s been working for some time on developing a new kind of topical sketch series based on his characterizations and mo-cap technology, and for the first time found a team capable of producing it,” Deadline reports. The team includes John MacInnes and Remington Scott of MacIinnes Scott, who worked together on the video game “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare,” and who directed and produced a short teaser for the Shearer project that can be seen by clicking on the link above to Deadline.

The story quotes Shearer saying he intends to do “a wide-ranging satirical take on current events.” But Shearer adds that “given Trump’s ability to ‘make news,’ he’ll probably have an outsize presence in the show.”
