Shakeup at MTV as Key Executive Exits

Nov 28, 2016  •  Post A Comment

One of the top executives at MTV is out the door as the Viacom-owned cable channel continues to experience turnover in the executive offices. The latest casualty is the head of original programming.

Deadline.com reports that Michael Klein has stepped down as executive VP of Original Content after six months on the job. He was appointed to oversee original programming by then-new MTV President Sean Atkins, the report notes.

“Klein’s departure follows Atkins’ exit last month when Chris McCarthy added MTV oversight as president of MTV, VH1 & Logo,” the Deadline report notes. “McCarthy just announced Klein’s exit in an internal memo, in which he acknowledges that the network will be making a change in its original programming strategy.”

The report adds: “MTV has struggled to launch a breakout new original series in the past few years, with its most recent crop of new shows largely disappointing, as the network is looking to stem a half-decade ratings slide.”

  1. Yeah MTV used to be good. Now it’s just crappy shows.

  2. That new weekly live music show Wonderland is pretty cool. Seems like that is the only attempt to get back to their music roots in a show that features mostly new emerging artists. Hope they don’t cancel it.

  3. I havent watched Mtv since they took music off of it. I often wondered if mtv exec had any education at all. It seems to be a company ran by high schoop drop out that cant accept responsibility for their own life.
