The Federal Communications Commission is poised to kill the new net neutrality rules without delay under the Trump administration.
MediaPost reports that the two Republicans currently on the panel, Ajit Pai and Michael O’Rielly, made their intentions clear in a letter sent out to industry trade groups in which they promised to revisit the rules “as soon as possible.”
“What’s more, even while the rules remain in effect, the GOP commissioners apparently have no intention of fully policing them,” MediaPost reports, noting that Pai and O’Rielly said as much in the letter.
A number of trade groups have lobbied for a permanent exemption for small ISPs “from a net neutrality rule requiring providers to transparently inform subscribers about broadband policies, including prices, speeds, surcharges, data caps and network management practices,” MediaPost notes.
A temporary exemption expired Dec. 15. But MediaPost reports that “Pai and O’Rielly told the trade groups that ‘small’ ISPs need not worry about the disclosure requirements.
The commissioners wrote in their letter: “Although the exemption has technically lapsed, we note that the new requirements are not in effect and are not enforceable until January 17. We want to assure you and your members that we would not support any adverse actions against small business providers for supposed non-compliance.”
The FCC will have a Republican majority after Chairman Tom Wheeler steps down in January.
Not only do they plan on killing net-neutrality, they’re going to kill the ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food assistance, Unemployment insurance, and housing assistance. They’re going to kill the EPA, and our school systems. When they remove ownership limits from radio, TV and newspapers, they’re going to kill a lot of voices, too.
You KNOW that’s not true. The hyperbole is absurd.
Its what they say they’ll do, whose to say they won’t kill all these programs?
Remember the story of the goose that laid the golden eggs? Ostensibly a morality play about greed, it can also be taken as warning about the consequences of short-sightedness.
These are the kind of people that would kill the goose.
This is going to be worse than Regan, who’s policies just about killed local ownership and service in both TV and Radio. The barbarians will not only kill the goose they’ll kill the whole damn farm.
All anyone has to do is go back and read for themselves all the things that Republican’s have promised that they will do when they get the chance. It is not a bright future for the U.S. in my opinion.
