A new project in development at Fox is being described as a family comedy even though it has the seemingly un-family-friendly title “The Bastard.”

Deadline.com reports that the single-camera project written and executive produced by Rob Rosell and David Hornsby received a script commitment with penalty from Fox. The project is being produced by 20th Television.

“‘The Bastard’ follows Warren, a hardworking hotel janitor who has a freak accident at work and is told by his mother, who mistakenly thinks he’s on his death bed, that he’s the bastard son of the wealthy founder of the hotel chain,” Deadline notes. “Warren seeks out his real father, hoping to connect, and eventually earns a place in the wealthy but dysfunctional family.”
