Jimmy Kimmel Reveals How Much He’s Being Paid to Host the Oscars — Do You Believe Him?

Jimmy Kimmel, who will be hosting the 89th Academy Awards, made the surprising claim that he’s being paid just $15,000 for the gig. Indiewire reports that Kimmel announced the unexpectedly low figure on KROQ’s morning radio show “Kevin and Bean.”

When the hosts indicated the amount seemed too low for such a high-profile event, Kimmel added: “You know why? I think it’s illegal to pay nothing.”

Asked whether that was the same amount paid to previous Oscars hosts such as Chris Rock and Billy Crystal, Kimmel said: ‘That’s what they told me.”

He added: “I’m not sure I was supposed to reveal this. But nobody told me not to. I consider this their fault. … I wonder if you get a raise if you do it more than once, like, ‘We’re going to give you a 3 percent raise.’”

The ceremony is set to air Feb. 26 on ABC.

  1. Screw you, Kimmel. I have to work 5 months for 15 grand; I don’t want to hear you bitching that $15,000 isn’t enough pay for two or 3 days work.
