Stars, Producers Pick the Best TV Shows of 2016

A number of TV stars and producers were asked about their favorite shows of the past year by The New York Times, which is publishing their responses over a span of two weeks.

Mindy Kaling, the star and creator of Hulu’s “The Mindy Project,” singled out the Netflix series “Narcos.” Thomas Middleditch, who stars on HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” picked FX’s Zach Galifianakis comedy “Baskets.”

Sterling K. Brown, of NBC’s “This Is Us” and FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” singled out a favorite TV moment (“Game of Thrones” spoiler alert …) in the season finale of HBO’s “Game of Thrones”: Tommen’s suicide.

Sam Esmail, creator and showrunner on USA’s “Mr. Robot,” said his favorite series was Hulu’s “Horace & Pete.”

Bryan Fuller, co-showrunner on the upcoming Starz series “American Gods,” reached back into TV history to single out a favorite TV episode, “The After Hours,” from “The Twilight Zone.” “There’s been so much great television this year, but it’s never been easier to rewatch the greats,” Fuller said.

A number of those asked to comment, including “Stranger Things” star David Harbour, “Fresh Off the Boat” star Constance Wu and “The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Ann Hurd, singled out moments, episodes and performances from “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”
