The casting of a white actor to play pop icon Michael Jackson has riled up social media, with Jackson’s family among those reacting strongly to the decision.
The fuss is over the casting of Joseph Fiennes to play the singer in the U.K. series “Urban Myths.” Britain’s Sky Arts fueled the uproar when it released a trailer this week for the comedy series, which has since been pulled from circulation.
Jackson’s daughter Paris reacted strongly on social media, tweeting: “I’m so incredibly offended by it, as i’m sure plenty of people are as well, and it honestly makes me want to vomit.”
Another Jackson family member, Michael Jackson’s nephew Taj Jackson, also objected to the casting of Fiennes, writing on Twitter: “Unfortunately this is what my family has to deal with. No words could express the blatant disrespect.”
