One of the stars of the CBS drama series “Madam Secretary” was due to have surgery today following a serious injury on the ski slopes. Variety reports that Tim Daly broke both legs in a skiing accident while on vacation in Sundance.

“The team behind the hit CBS show has been told that the actor is expected to need between six and eight weeks to fully recover,” Variety reports. “In the interim, the ‘Madam Secretary’ producers and writing staff are weighing a number of options, including either incorporating Daly’s injury into the plot of the program or shooting around him.”

Daly, a TV veteran who starred in “Wings” in the 1990s and more recently had a long run on “Private Practice,” plays the husband of Tea Leoni’s Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord on “Madam Secretary.” Despite his injuries, he will reportedly continue to appear in all of the show’s episodes this season.

“One source close to the production said that the show may be far enough along in its shooting schedule that few changes could be needed,” Variety notes.
