The latest war of words between Donald Trump and (fill in the blank) features the president-elect and his replacement as host of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” Arnold Schwarzenegger, exchanging volleys.

Trump got in the first shot when he bashed Schwarzenegger’s ratings for Monday’s premiere of “The New Celebrity Apprentice.”

Trump sent out tweets today saying: “Wow, the ratings are in and Arnold Schwarzenegger got ‘swamped’ (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT. So much for being a movie star — and that was season 1 compared to season 14. Now compare him to my season 1. But who cares, he supported Kasich & Hillary.”

Schwarzenegger later responded, implying that Trump needs to focus on his work and back off on the “Apprentice” critiques.

Schwarzenegger initially sent out a tweet saying: “There’s nothing more important than the people’s work, @realDonaldTrump.” He later followed up with another tweet in which he wrote: “I wish you the best of luck and hope you’ll work for ALL of the American people as aggressively as you worked for your ratings.”

Monday’s premiere of “New Celebrity Apprentice” reportedly delivered 4.9 million total viewers, well shy of the 6.6 million who turned out for another high-profile reality premiere that aired opposite it, ABC’s “The Bachelor.”

USA Today notes that the turnout for Trump’s season opener on “Celebrity Apprentice” in his final season — the show’s seventh, and the 14th season overall in the “Apprentice” franchise — was a bit better. That show, which aired Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, delivered 6.3 million viewers.

By that point the show was already well down from the franchise’s peak of 28 million back in April 2004.
