Why Willie Nelson Wants Loretta Lynn to Get High

In case you hadn’t heard, legendary outlaw country singer Willie Nelson smokes pot, and now he wants another country music legend, Loretta Lynn, to smoke it too.

The AP reports that Nelson talked about his friend Lynn during an interview in Nashville. Lynn, 84, recently revealed that she had tried marijuana for the first time, in the hope of relieving her glaucoma. She said she didn’t like it.

But Nelson reportedly encouraged Lynn to give pot another try.

“She’s got a lot of guts,” he said in the AP interview. “She’ll try anything. Maybe I should help her.”

Nelson, 83, is a part of the burgeoning legal marijuana business, the report notes. “He’s attached his name to a line of legal marijuana being sold in Colorado and Washington called ‘Willie’s Reserve,’ after decades of personally advocating for the legalization of marijuana,” the AP reports.

The report notes that the incoming Trump administration has raised fears among some marijuana advocates. “Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has said weed should not be legalized,” the AP notes.

But Nelson remains optimistic. He told the AP: “I think people would be smarter than that. You look and see the benefits. You weigh them against the things that might possibly happen. I think marijuana is probably the safest medicine you can take. These new guys that are coming in there trying to shut it down, I don’t think they will be successful. People will say, ‘Hey wait a minute. Heroin, cocaine, OK. But it grows in the ground. It seems to be normal. Let it alone.'”

  1. I agree wholeheartedly with Willie, but many members of congress are financially invested with big pharma. There’s no way they’re going to allow something that could cut pharma’s income.
