Joel and Ethan Coen are polishing up the script for a planned remake of the beloved 1983 Brian De Palma movie “Scarface,” the AP reports.
Universal Pictures announced today that the project, which the studio calls “an explosive reimagining” of De Palma’s movie, is scheduled to come out in August 2018. Diego Luna will tackle the role played with bravado by Al Pacino in 1983. (See clip below.)
The 1983 movie was itself a remake of the 1932 original, which starred Paul Muni.
“The Coen brothers have played script doctor a few times recently, polishing the screenplays for Steven Spielberg’s ‘Bridge of Spies’ and Angelina Jolie’s ‘Unbroken,'” the report notes.
