NBC’s upcoming anthology series “Law & Order: True Crime” will focus an eight-episode cycle on the case of the Menendez brothers, convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents, and the network announced today that four-time Emmy Award winner Edie Falco will be a part of the series.

Falco, who won three Emmys for “The Sopranos” and another one for “Nurse Jackie,” will play defense attorney Leslie Abramson.

“Falco is the only actress to have won the Emmy for Best Actress in both the comedy and drama categories,” NBC says in its announcement. “She has been nominated for a record 22 SAG Awards and became the only actress ever to receive the Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award all in the same year for the same performance.”

Rene Balcer will write and executive produce “Law & Order: True Crime — The Menendez Murders” with Dick Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Arthur W. Forney through Wolf Entertainment in association with Universal Television.
