Report: ‘Bad Blood’ at NBC Over Tamron Hall’s Exit

A new report suggests that the abrupt departure of respected anchor Tamron Hall from NBC News, which we reported Wednesday, may not have been handled particularly well.

Hall’s sudden exit came amid plans to move newly hired Megyn Kelly into the “Today” show lineup. Contract talks with Hall, whose deal was set to expire this month, reportedly prompted NBC to let “Today” staff in on the network’s plans to shuffle the lineup — notably the 9 a.m. hour where Hall and Al Roker have been among those holding down the fort.

People magazine is reporting that the way the situation was handled left Hall “hurt and offended.” The report cites a number of unnamed insiders, and suggests that Hall’s decision to leave took the network by surprise.

Hall’s reasons for leaving have not been disclosed, but the report quotes one source saying, “There’s bad blood.” Another source says Hall was informed about the “Today” revamp just moments before she was due to go on the air.

“Just a few days ago, she received an email from the executive producer congratulating the 9 a.m. team for being No. 1 for the last seven weeks,” the source is quoted telling People. “Then on Friday, minutes before going on MSNBC, they told her that she and Al are being taken off the air.”

However, a network source quoted in the story says it was Hall’s agent and not network management who picked that moment to break the news.
