A comedy project in the works at NBC settled on one of its stars, casting Busy Philipps in a key role. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Philipps is returning to broadcast TV for one of the starring roles in the pilot “The Sackett Sisters,” from Tina Fey.
“The single-camera comedy revolves around the Sackett family, who is reunited when two estranged sisters perform an act of public heroism and are forced to navigate the aftermath together,” THR reports. “Philipps — who had multiple offers this season — will star as Mandy, the older sister, who is the family’s living embodiment of their failure. She’s been married three times and arrested six and has never held a job for more than a week.”
Philipps is a series TV veteran, perhaps best known for “Cougar Town” along with roles on “Freaks and Geeks” and “Dawson’s Creek.” She’s a Critics’ Choice Television Award winner for “Cougar Town.”
The report notes that “30 Rock’s” Luke Del Tredici will write the script and will be an executive producer along with Fey, Robert Carlock and David Miner. The project is being produced by Universal TV.
