Why ‘South Park’ Is Backing Off on Trump

The creators of the long-running Comedy Central show “South Park” say the series will be steering clear of Donald Trump going forward. Trey Parker and Matt Stone discussed plans for the show during an interview with Australia’s ABC Network.

The pair said that even though the show delved heavily into politics last season — the program featured a character who had a lot in common with Trump — they began to find it was hard to stay ahead of the increasingly bizarre political environment.

“It’s really tricky now as satire has become reality,” said Parker. “We were really trying to make fun of what was going on [last season] but we couldn’t keep up. What was actually happening was way funnier than anything we could come up with. So we decided to just back off and let [the politicians] do their comedy and we’ll do ours.”

Going forward, “It feels like it’s going to be more difficult,” added Stone.

Parker said the current political situation is “not something you can make fun of.”

Added Stone: “We’re having our head blown off like everybody else.”

  1. Cowards. Now more than ever, the media needs to speak truth to power.

  2. It might also be a ratings concern since almost half the country voted for Trump.

    • Yeah, almost half- give or take about three million. Day by day more and more of those who did support and vote for Mr. Trump have come to regret it.

  3. Interesting that a few people think of the media as speaking truth!!! In fact the media and the liberals they coexist with have eliminated the protection of the First Amendment. Unless you are in lockstep agreement with liberals you will be barred from speaking at universities. You will have your words twisted and taken out of context to support the liberal agenda. You will be personally or physically attacked for expressing your views. And your communities will be rampaged by bands of thugs claiming that they are protesting an administration that has been on the job for less than 20 days! When facts, logic and reason are applied, liberals have been behaving in idiotic ways throughout this election cycle and certainly now that they have lost the White House, both houses and nearly every governorship in the nation. More people voted for Republicans up and down the ticket than Democrats. The total vote is the important “popular” vote and Republicans hold that firmly! It will take a generation for the media to regain any journalistic integrity with the majority of the American population.

    • You may need to re-check your alternate reality. While more R’s ‘won’ seats, more actual total votes were tallied for D’s. This is especially true for congressional races. Gerrymandering, anyone? There is much more that is wrong with your above assertions but I will not attempt to bore you with actual facts since you seen to have embraced ‘alternative facts’.
