A drama series has moved to the forefront among scripted shows when it comes to weaving Donald Trump into the story line. The AP reports that the new CBS All Access legal drama “The Good Fight,” a spinoff of “The Good Wife,” has jumped on top in the scripted Trump space.

“In last month’s debut of ‘The Good Fight’ … lawyer and Hillary Clinton supporter Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranksi) watched and cringed as Trump was sworn into office,” the AP reports. “In another episode, a member of the drama’s nearly all-black law firm tells his boss he voted for Trump and is scorned by his colleagues.”

The report notes that after many prominent Hollywood personalities took active stances against candidate Trump, the question arose as to how much their political sentiments might be reflected in their films and TV shows.

“Most shows that debuted last fall have wrapped their production for the season that ends in spring, and movies have a long road to get into theaters,” the report notes. “‘The Good Fight,’ which debuted in February, has taken ample advantage of its timing.”

The report quotes Michelle King, who created and produces “The Good Fight” with her husband, Robert, saying: “We have created very politically aware characters, and it would simply be peculiar if they weren’t talking about what was going on politically right now.”

Robert King noted that the show is following a pattern that was already in place on “The Good Wife.”

“That had a lot of references to the Clintons and Obama, and critical depictions too,” he said. “The only difference is in degree.”

The report adds that this Sunday’s installment of “The Good Fight” is “a thinly veiled shot at NBC’s postponement of a ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ episode about a candidate facing sexual assault allegations.”

  1. It will be interesting if this has an impact on CBS subscriptions

  2. Blackish already did an episode about the outcome of the election.
