Pop superstar Barry Manilow broke decades of silence about his sexuality, revealing in an exclusive interview with People magazine that he’s gay.

Manilow also revealed his secret marriage to Garry Kief, the singer’s manager and business partner, and the president of Barry Manilow Productions. Manilow and Kief married in 2014, with news of the marriage surfacing the following year. The pair have been together almost 40 years.

Manilow explained why he kept quiet about his sexuality, saying he felt he would “disappoint” his fans if they knew he was gay.

Manilow, 73, has had a string of huge hits including “Copacabana,” “Can’t Smile Without You” and “Mandy.”
