Who Will Fox News Bring Off the Bench to Take Over O’Reilly’s Time Slot If He Doesn’t Return?

With a number of insiders convinced that Bill O’Reilly’s vacation from his Fox News show will turn out to be permanent, veteran TV writer David Bauder writes for the AP that the cable channel has a deep bench filled with players who would love to get a crack at O’Reilly’s time slot.

In a piece published Thursday, Bauder runs through some of the top candidates for the slot, should it become available. Bauder notes that Tucker Carlson recently took over Megyn Kelly’s 9 p.m. slot on FNC and increased the ratings.

Bauder says the Kelly-Carlson transition is “evidence that Fox viewers are Fox viewers — loyal to the network and its ethos as much, if not more, than individual personalities. For that reason, it’s a virtual certainty that whoever takes over O’Reilly’s time slot will be somebody Fox viewers already know.”

Among the top contenders, according to Bauder, are Dana Perino, Eric Bolling, Jesse Watters and Martha MacCallum.

The analysis also notes that Greg Gutfeld and Laura Ingraham appear to be waiting in the wings and could land slots as Fox shuffles its lineup.

  1. I’d like to throw a name in the hat out of left field… if anybody at Fox News is listening! He’s the perfect blend of celebrity and conservative thinking; John Schneider. I’ve heard him on a radio show years ago but he was impressive. We already know the camera loves him; plus he’s articulate, smart, and able to put cohesive thoughts together from a conservative viewpoint without pontificating like some of the other egotistical blowhards on Fox News.

  2. Interesting suggestion…
