Simon Cowell had a few choice words for “American Idol” when he was asked whether he plans to be a part of it.
“I was asked to do it, and the answer is no,” Cowell said when asked about the project by “Extra’s” Terri Seymour.
As we reported this week, ABC is reviving the singing competition, which will return in the 2017-2018 season. The original version of the show — on which Cowell became one of the show’s breakout stars with his biting critiques of the performers — ran for 15 seasons on Fox before wrapping in April 2016. Cowell exited the show in 2010 and is now a part of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”
Commenting on the ABC reboot, Cowell told Seymour: “I have no interest. My memories are when we first started. It was a different time with Randy [Jackson], Ryan [Seacrest] and Paula [Abdul]. You can’t re-create that.”
He added: “Last time I watched, it was not the same show, just the same name. I left for a reason and I never regretted that.”
