A feature story just out today in The Hollywood Reporter goes behind the scenes at NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” to look back on the veteran sketch show’s Trump-fueled ratings resurgence and dig up clues to what lies ahead.

Among the report’s many nuggets, Alec Baldwin and Lorne Michaels talk about how Baldwin became the show’s surrogate for Donald Trump, Aziz Ansari reveals the joke he had to cut from his monologue and writer Kent Sublette describes a Lorne Michaels pep talk on the day after the presidential election.

Sublette quotes Michaels saying: “The world’s not going to end tomorrow. … Half the country voted for Trump, and our show’s for those people as well. It’s not just for people who didn’t want him to be president.”

The report features insights from cast members Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong and Michael Che, producers Erik Kenward and Steve Higgins, guest stars Chris Rock, Melissa McCarthy and Lin-Manuel Miranda, and many other “SNL” insiders. We encourage readers to click here to go to THR to read the full feature.
