Lightning rod comedian Kathy Griffin delivered what many observers may find a surprising response to the uproar over a video clip posted Tuesday in which she raises a mockup of a bloody severed head resembling Donald Trump.
Griffin, who has a reputation for outrageous behavior and is not known for backing down, posted a follow-up video clip on her Twitter account in which she apologizes profusely for the incident.
“I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong,” Griffin writes in a message posted above the video. In the clip she says, “I sincerely apologize. I am just now seeing the reaction of these images. I’m a comic, I crossed the line — I moved the line and then I crossed it. I went way too far.”
Griffin also admits that the image is disturbing and says she’s taking it down and also asking the photographer to take it down. “It wasn’t funny — I get it,” she says.
Kathy Griffin is not funny; this is Treason and a Hate Crime. She needs to have a very serious visit from the Secret Service. What a Stupid Witch.
Neither “treason” nor a “hate crime”, but merely art in staggeringly bad taste. Fine for that to reflect on Griffin’s character, remember it, talk about it, boycott her future work, all that is fine… but nothing she did was even remotely illegal so there’s that.
Good to see so many condemn it, though. Trump is a clown and an idiot but the opposition is automatically invalidated if they sink to his level, as things seem to go when protesting against the powerful. Always have to be better than those one is opposed to, that’s the only way that change happens.
I think you probably didn’t mean to say this, but your wording seems to indicate you think Kathy Griffin’s stunt was merely stooping to Trump’s level. I think most would agree (regardless of personal politics) he has done nothing remotely like what Griffin did to him. This seems to go beyond a joke that didn’t get laughs. This is hate. All sides of our political spectrum are condemning this. If anything can be salvaged from this let’s hope that at the very least this incident becomes a tipping point reflecting where we are headed unless we readdress how we treat those who disagree with us politically.
