Major TV Networks Reject Trump’s ‘Fake News’ Ad

A number of major networks have joined CNN in refusing to air an ad from the Donald Trump 2020 campaign. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC, NBC and CBS have all rejected the “First 100 Days” clip.

The spot reportedly includes a “Fake News” banner appearing over the faces of well-known anchors. The stance by networks has prompted a PR war between broadcasters and the Trump camp.

THR quotes a statement from Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of Donald Trump and a campaign consultant, saying: “Apparently, the mainstream media are champions of the First Amendment only when it serves their own political views.”

The statement adds: “Faced with an ad that doesn’t fit their biased narrative, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC have now all chosen to block our ad. This is an unprecedented act of censorship in America that should concern every freedom-loving citizen.”

THR notes: “Broadcast networks have maintained that if the banner was removed the ad will run.” The report quotes an NBCUniversal spokesperson saying today: “Consistent with our policies, we have agreed to accept the ad if the inaccurate graphic — which refers to journalists as ‘fake news’ — is corrected.”

  1. Note to Lara Trump: All networks review ads for accuracy. This ad is anything but accurate. Like other advertisers, rework the ad to be factual and it will be aired. It is not a hard concept.

  2. This isn’t the State censoring news or information, it’s an ad… by the admission of those who submitted it. And ads (and not just political ads) have always been subject to approval by those airing them. Complaining about this is a bit immature.

  3. Why does Trump like dictators? They have created a situation where their opinions carry the force of law.

  4. When you tell the Emperor he has no clothes, the Emperor can not and will not accept what you say. The Emperor does not like to have his word questioned or the word of any of his minions. For years, the Main Stream Media has been the Emperor of all news. We have been told we must accept all their pronouncements, as if they proceeded from the mouth of God. Donald Trump has the audacity to question their words. He calls them out when they lie. No one ever does that and he shouldn’t either. If people finally realize that many news organizations, from the NY Times to CNN, have been caught makinig up news (FAKE NEWs) to serve their own agenda, this might destroy our faith in the infallibility of the words of Main Stream Media. I say good for all the news organizations that won’t accept Trump’s ads. Why should the Emperor be the one that tells the world he has no clothes?

Even when they are found to be lying, we should not question them. Why should they accept ads that tell the truth. It’s their right to lie and to censor any person that might show the world that they have no clothes.

  5. Well said. Now get on the folks that faked that moon landing. The media lied about that too! And what about the ancient aliens? Get that lying media! Lying for… well, why are they lying again? What’s their global agenda?

  6. There are 100’s of news / information sources (liberal, conservative, independent, etc.) making it possible to educate oneself about all sides of an issue. This requires risking exposure to different points of view. To do anything less is to suffer the consequences that comes from “blind loyalty.”

  7. The main stream news media hypes the news – but usually does not outright lie. When a reporter is caught in a lie they are censored or demoted to a lesser position. They are outed publicly so the public can take them for what they are.
TV news is in a rating battle. Hype is not an outright deception. It is filling out a story to make it interesting from many angles with color and excitement. Just the fact a story is being told – at all – is a form of hype – there are billions of untold stories every day in Science, Medicine, Engineering, Entertainment and Human endeavors – but those stories are not told – the focus alone on any story creates hype, excitement and unbalanced attention which makes it seem more important than all the other stories happening at the same time. Observation does change the natural process – it changes it’s weight of importance but does not make it a purposeful lie.

  8. Seems all the same media outlets that ran ads that said something like “If you like your doctors you can keep your doctors. If you like your plan you can keep your plan. And you will save an average of $2400 each year” now object to things like that being called fake. I guess since the media anchors were not the ones spewing this FAKE NEWS they were OK with selling the time. In reality the REAL NEWS that they won’t run the ad gives the Trump campaign FREE coverage and the medial a black eye anyway!
