NBC has placed orders for two new dramas. Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that the network ordered “Rise,” from former “Friday Night Lights” showrunner Jason Katims and “Hamilton” producer Jeffrey Seller, and “For God & Country,” from writer Dean Georgaris.

The series orders “come two weeks after the two pilots — both from sibling studio Universal Television — received permission by the network to start making firm offers to writers,” Andreeva notes. “NBC traditionally kicks off the new series pickups as it is the first broadcast network to present its fall schedule on Monday morning of upfront week.

Written by Katims, “Rise,” formerly known as “Drama High,” stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez and Marley Shelton. Andreeva notes that the series is “a potential companion piece for breakout ensemble family drama ‘This Is Us.'”

The report notes that “For God & Country,” which is written by Georgaris and stars Mike Vogel and Anne Heche, “is described as a heart-pounding journey into the complex world of America’s elite undercover military heroes.”

  1. Sounds like a couple of winners what with the uber-talented Rosie Perez carrying one show, and the perfectly cast Anne Heche as one of America’s elite undercover military heroes. Maybe these will do better than Emerald City…
