The World’s Highest-Paid Actor May Run for President

The movie star who already holds the title of world’s highest-paid actor says a presidential run may be in his future. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said there’s a “real possibility” he will run.

“Johnson, a wrestler-turned actor known best for his performances in ‘The Fast and the Furious’ franchise, declared his political ambitions in an interview with GQ in which he also criticized President Donald Trump, who made the transition from showbiz to the White House after hosting reality show ‘The Apprentice,'” Newsweek reports.

Johnson noted that the suggestion of a presidential bid originated in a Washington Post article making the case that a run by Johnson would be viable.

“A year ago it started coming up more and more,” Johnson said. “There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think: ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’”

The report notes that Johnson is talking about building his campaign on a message of inclusion.

Johnson said in the GQ interview that if he didn’t agree with someone, “I wouldn’t shut them out. I would actually include them. The first thing we’d do is we’d come and sit down and we’d talk about it. I [would] take responsibility for everyone. Especially when you disagree with me. If there’s a large number of people disagreeing, there might be something I’m not seeing, so let me see it. Let me understand it.”

Newsweek notes: “Johnson declines to express support for either Republican or Democrat parties, and says both the Clinton and Trump camps reached out to him for endorsement, which he did not give.”

The report notes that Johnson is the world’s highest-paid actor, receiving $64.5 million for his work last year. In addition to feature films, he has also starred in the HBO series “Ballers.”

  1. WTF? Really? Yeah, let’s see… Trump at least owned and operated a multi billion dollar company before running for President – and is a master negotiator. The Rock has learned lines and has his agent do the negotiating for his business as an actor. Exactly what qualifications does he have? Zero. Give me a break… stick to your day job, Dwayne.

    • Well he’s an actual human being with intellect, charisma and compassion. That gives him a leg up over what we’ve got now.

Not saying he’d be my first choice or anything, but… we’ve already hit rock bottom.

    • Newsflash: the government is not a business. Nor, should it be run like one. That’s why Trump is having a hard time now.

  2. WTF – someone who is intelligent, free of foreign entanglements, free of Trump arrogance (who thinks the whole presidential thing is a joke and a promo campaign for his hotels and crappy merchandise .. all made with foreign labor) — I actually think Dwayne could be the right guy at this weird time in our history … my own Great Uncle, William Jennings Bryan ran for president three times in the early 1900s and was a religious fanatic … yet would be much better than Lord Trump!

  3. These are same people that want a single-payer government run health insurance program so all Americans can have the same great quality of care that our Veterans get from their single payer plan – the VA.

  4. Oh my god. This is Trumps fault…now any moron thinks they can be president….
