An actor known for a number of high-profile film roles, including “John Wick,” has died. The AP reports that Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist died after a battle with lung cancer. He was 56.

“Nyqvist is perhaps best known worldwide for originating the role of Mikael Blomkvist in the Swedish ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ series opposite Noomi Rapace,” the story reports. “Daniel Craig played the role in the American adaptation.”

Nyqvist also played villains in a number of Hollywood films, including a mob boss who torments Keanu Reeves in “John Wick” and a foil for Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.”

His family issued a statement through Nyqvist’s representative saying: “Michael’s joy and passion were infectious to those who knew and loved him. His charm and charisma were undeniable, and his love for the arts was felt by all who had the pleasure of working with him.”
