The Huffington Post began laying off journalists this week, with one of the casualties being Pulitzer Prize winner David Wood. The New York Post reports that Wood was one of at least 39 journalists to get the ax.

“The Writers Guild of America East, the union that in January hammered out a new three-year contract with the company, said in a statement that 39 of its members were axed,” The NY Post reports.

The statement from WGAE notes that Wednesday’s job cuts are “part of a corporate-wide layoff in connection with Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo.”

AOL, parent company of The Huffington Post, is absorbing Yahoo following its $4.5 billion acquisition by Verizon,” The NY Post notes.
