A series premiering in a few weeks goes behind-the-scenes to reveal what was going on with the women who served as first lady of the U.S.

The four-episode series, “First Ladies Revealed,” debuts July 2 on Smithsonian Channel. The first installment, “The Power of Style,” examines the impact of style choices made by first ladies including Jackie Kennedy, Dolley Madison and Nancy Reagan.

Other installments include “Ladies by Chance,” focusing on Lady Bird Johnson, Edith Roosevelt and Betty Ford; “In Times of War,” examining the wartime roles of Mary Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt and Laura Bush; and “Trailblazers,” spotlighting how first ladies including Eleanor Roosevelt and Hillary Clinton challenged the traditional role of the first lady.
