A new spot for Apple’s digital assistant Siri featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — showing the action star keeping a series of high-production-value appointments — is getting a lot of attention online.

Released Sunday, the clip, which clocks in at a little under four minutes, quickly chalked up more than 3 million views on YouTube.

Is it right to call something a viral video when it was well funded with high production values and a name box office star and heralded with a major PR blitz before it was posted? “Viral” is when something acquires attention by word of mouth because people recommend it to their friends and followers on social media, not when a team of top flight publicists plant stories about it in every major news outlet.

    • I agree. We need a term to differentiate the two, kind of like “paid viral” as opposed to “organically viral.”
