Netflix’s ‘Narcos’ Shifts Focus: With Escobar Out of the Way, the Series, Which Returns in a Few Weeks, Will Go After the World’s Richest Drug Trafficking Organization

After tracking the takedown of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, the Netflix series “Narcos” is shifting its focus to the Cali Cartel. Netflix announced plans today for season three of the acclaimed series, which rolls out globally Sept. 1 on the streaming service.

Here’s a teaser for season three, released today …

Colombia’s Cali Cartel emerged as the richest drug trafficking organization in the world in the wake of the downfall of Escobar’s empire, Netflix notes. “Led by four powerful godfathers, this cartel operates much differently than Escobar’s, preferring to bribe government officials and keep its violent actions out of the headlines,” the announcement adds.
