‘Walking Dead’ Producers Pull the Plug on TCA Event

A presentation for AMC’s “The Walking Dead” that had been scheduled for the Television Critics Association summer press tour was canceled so the show’s producers could attend the funeral of stuntman John Bernecker, who was killed earlier this month in an accident on the set.

“Showrunner Scott M. Gimple and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman, Dave Alpert, and Greg Nicotero were scheduled to attend the bi-annual press event,” Variety reports. “They will not be able to make it this Saturday as the timing would conflict with Bernecker’s funeral service, AMC said in a statement on Thursday.”

Production on “The Walking Dead” resumed July 17 after being shut down following Bernecker’s fatal fall from a balcony on July 12. Bernecker reportedly failed to get a “good separation” from the balcony and fell 22 feet, missing a safety cushion by inches.

A 5-minute trailer for season eight of “The Walking Dead” released a week ago in connection with Comic-Con has been attracting a lot of attention online, with more than 6 million views on YouTube alone and more than 30 million views across Facebook, Twitter, AMC.com and other sites.
