The one “winning ticket for Wednesday’s $758.7 million Powerball jackpot was sold in Massachusetts, lottery officials have confirmed,” reports ABC News.

According to lotterypost.com, “the winning ticket was sold at Handy Variety, located at 97 Common Street in Watertown, Massachusetts.” Depending upon the route you drive, Watertown is 6-10 miles west of Boston.

The ABC story notes, “The $758.7 million jackpot is second only to a $1.6 billion prize shared by three people in January 2016. The current jackpot refers to the annuity option, doled out in 30 payments over 29 years, increasing 5 percent annually.”

Furthermore, as lotterypost.com notes, the “$758.7 million jackpot [is] the largest ever awarded to a single winning ticket.”

Lotterypost.com adds that “If the winner chooses the lump-sum cash value, they will receive a one-time cash payment of $480.5 million.That’s nearly a half-billion dollars in cash, minus taxes of course.”

In Massachusetts, the winner will pay 25% in federal taxes, and 5% in state taxes. Thus if the winner is one individual who chooses to take the cash value prize, after taxes she or he will be left with $336,350,000.

Notes lotterypost.com, “The lucky numbers drawn Wednesday night were 6, 7, 16, 23, and 26, with Powerball number 4. In addition to the Massachusetts jackpot winner, a whopping 40 tickets came within one number of sharing the prize, missing only the Powerball.”

The ABC News story adds, “Powerball officials told ABC News they expected to sell 170 million tickets between last Saturday and [Wednesday’s] drawing.”

There are only six states that don’t play Powerball: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah.
