CEO Put on Notice Over Viral Rant Against Kathy Griffin

Comedian Kathy Griffin is a part of another controversy, but this time it’s not about her stunt with a mockup of the severed head of Donald Trump. This time it’s the CEO of one of the country’s top homebuilders who’s in the hot seat, after his obscene rant against Griffin was caught on tape and went viral.

“KB Home CEO Jeffrey Mezger, who is a neighbor of Griffin’s in California, was recorded by a security camera hurling slurs against Griffin while in a heated argument with her boyfriend,” the AP reports. “Mezger was angered after Griffin or her boyfriend complained to police over a family get-together at Mezger’s house.”

The company responded by taking action against Mezger.

“KB Home said in a regulatory filing Thursday that while Mezger has been ‘a great leader,’ his behavior was unacceptable and that he would be fired for any similar incidents in the future,” the AP reports. “It also cut his annual bonus by 25 percent.”

The Huffington Post published an audio recording of the confrontation, in which Mezger can be heard calling Griffin a “bald dyke” and a “c–t” as part of a string of colorful expletives. You can click here to listen to the encounter on HuffPost.

The AP report adds: “There were apparently a number of complaints since the couple moved in to the house beside Mezger’s. Griffin and her boyfriend, in the incident that preceded the taped confrontation, appear to have called police over noise made by children playing in a backyard pool.”

After the tape surfaced, it generated plenty of backlash, including a Twitter post this week from financial adviser Suze Orman, who posted the audio recording along with her reaction. You can see her comments below …

  1. I don’t defend what the CEO said. But REALLY? Calling the cops because kids were making too much noise in a swimming pool? That’s ridiculous.
