ABC’s long-running hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” has already spawned one successful spinoff series in “Private Practice,” and now Shonda Rhimes and ABC are hoping for a similar success story for the show’s upcoming second spinoff. The untitled Seattle-based project, focusing on firefighters, is on track for a midseason premiere in 2018.
The project has a 10-episode straight-to-series order, with the cast to be introduced during an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” this season, The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.
Jaina Lee Ortiz has the female lead, but THR notes that details about her role have been kept under wraps. Jason George will reprise his role from “Grey’s Anatomy” as Ben Warren.
Others in the cast include Grey Damon from “Friday Night Lights,” Miguel Sandoval from “Bad Judge,” Okieriete Onaodowan from “Hamilton” and Danielle Savre from “Too Close to Home.”
