How Perfect Would It Be If People Would Just Stop Saying ‘Awesome’?

There are only a few things in life that qualify as being awesome, according to TVWeek Open Mic writer Rance Crain, whose shortlist includes the Seven Wonders of the World, a solar eclipse, a newborn baby and his granddaughter’s wedding.

Why, then, do so many people insist on using the word “awesome” to refer to everything from a World Series-losing bullpen to the opportunity to gawk at the bed of a new truck?

  1. How awesome would it be if TV Week actually posted only TV-related news?

    • If that’s something that would really make your life better … I don’t know, it just seems kind of sad for you.

  2. So, awesome is out, and “perfect” is in? Awesome!

  3. Add to that “All time Greatest”. Is Lebron James really greater than Magic, Bird, Wilt, Kareem, Cousy, Russell. Brady greater than Unitas, Starr, Namath, Layne, Manning? These players were all the best during their time. Rules change, styles change, training changes, officiating changes. What is true is that certain players were the best of their time and that is why they are in the Hall of Fame. 20 years from now the sportscasters will be in love with someone else and that athlete will be the “greatest”. There is really only one “Greatest” – Mohammad Ali.
